He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Smith and Viola Smith (VanderVries); his daughter Amy Stuart; his brother Judd Smith; and his former wives, Pat Smith and Barbara Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Hazel Steigenga; his children, Mike Smith (Patty) and Laurie LaBelle (Don); his stepchildren, Kim Mesman (Dean), Kris Sparling (Steve) and Kendall Steigenga (Patti); and his brother Frank Smith (Jill). He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; twenty great- grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 1st 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services (620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417). A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 2nd 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Second Christian Reformed Church (2021 Sheldon Rd, Grand Haven, MI 49417).
