James left this world on October 31, 2024 at the age of 75, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his parents, Lorena O'Dell and Omeda VanLanduyt; his siblings, Jean Burdis, Janice VanLanduyt-Smith and Victor Morris; and his son Frankie Kirkland.
He is survived by: his children, James VanLanduyt, Jr. (Jody), Jamie Messer (Joseph), Christopher VanLanduyt (Shannon) and Westley Kirkland (Sherri); his grandson Kurtis Harrison (Marcie); and his siblings, Rose Gray (Scott), Sandi Jarvis (Rick), Anthony Crump and Mark VanLanduyt. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
James has requested to donate his body to the University of Michigan medical school in hopes that others may learn from his complex cardiac medical history and apply that knowledge to help others.
