Richard L. Lauer Obituary
Richard "Dick" L. Lauer, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away with his family at his side on February 12, 2025, at the Woodland Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant following a brief illness. Born on November 3, 1947, in Bay City, Michigan, to the late Russel and Maxine "Gifford" Lauer, Dick's life was one marked by dedication, love, and service. Dick married the love of his life, Karen Gielda, on April 20, 1974, at St. Stanislaus Church, Bay City, Michigan and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children, Matthew (Kelli) Lauer, Jennifer (AJ) Leuneberg, and Kathryn (David) Naujokas, and further enriched by the joy of eight grandchildren: Lindsey, Aaron, Alvin, Christopher, Adam, Haley, Ethan, and Elaina. Dick was a family man at heart, always proud of his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments and grateful for the blessing of eight healthy grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Kathryn (Larry) Dishaw. Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Russel Lauer, and his niece, Tracy Boks.
His family remembers him as the pillar of strength and the source of boundless support throughout their lives. Dick's educational journey culminated in a bachelor's degree in business from Western Michigan University, setting the stage for a distinguished 42-year career in banking at several financial institutions Mid-Michigan retiring as a Senior Vice President, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and commitment. Dick's passion for community service was evident through his active involvement in various organizations. He was a respected member of the Thomas Twp. Rotary Club, Bay City Lions Club, and served as past president of the Bay City Rotary Club. His dedication to public service continued as he sat on the Gladwin Tax Tribunal, Gladwin Downtown Development Authority, Gladwin Housing Commission, MidMichigan Medical Center Board, and the Gladwin Knights of Columbus. In his free time Dick enjoyed woodworking and crafted several cherished pieces of furniture, each reflecting his meticulous attention to detail and love for the craft. He also enjoyed lending a hand at the Knights of Columbus Fish Fries, where his presence was always a source of joy and camaraderie.
Dick's love for his family shone brightly through the yearly trips to the farm in Rose City, where he grew up with the last trip being in August 2024, a memory that will be treasured by his wife. Those who knew Dick will remember him as a caring, handy, and thoughtful man. His ability to fix anything, and his unwavering kindness left an indelible mark on the lives of many. Dick's love for his dogs was profound, and his daily walks with them through the neighborhood were moments of pure contentment and reflection.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday February 19, 2025 at 12 pm (Noon) from Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Fr. David Parsch presiding with inurnment at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Bay City. Family will greet friends at the church on Wednesday from 10 am until time of Mass. Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider MyMichigan Hospice, Woodland Hospice House, or the Gladwin Animal Shelter.
