Joyce May Mastick Obituary
Joyce May Mastick, a beacon of love and creativity, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Gladwin Pines. Born on July 13, 1927, in Pontiac, Michigan, Joyce's life was a testament to her faith-filled spirit and the love she carried for her family and community.
As the cherished daughter of the late Alfred and Elva (Young) DeRousha, Joyce's early years in Pontiac were filled with the warmth of family and the simple joys of life in a close-knit community. Her journey took a joyous turn when she married her sweetheart, Arthur (Bud) Mastick, on December 18, 1948. Together, they built a life enriched by love and mutual respect, celebrating 31 years of marriage before Arthur's passing in 1980.
Joyce's legacy is carried on through her loving children, Sandra (James) Guinn and Gary (Connie) Mastick. She was a proud grandmother to William (Julie) Guinn, Jami Lynn (Bret) Haner, Gretchen Mastick, Christina (Gerald) Cook, and Stephanie (Gabriel) Fox. Her joy multiplied with the births of her 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored deeply. Joyce was the last surviving sibling of her family, predeceased by her brothers Merald, Destin, and Ivan DeRousha.
Throughout her life, Joyce was a dedicated worker, serving as a retail clerk in various stores where her warmth and kindness brightened many customers' days. Her commitment to her community shone through her active involvement in the Gladwin Cornerstone Baptist Church and her lifetime membership with the American Legion Post 377 of Pontiac, Michigan. Joyce's generosity of spirit was further evident in the decade she spent volunteering at the Gladwin Hospital, offering comfort and assistance to those in need.
Joyce's interests were as diverse as they were heartfelt. She found peace in the solitude of her garden, where she nurtured plants with the same tenderness she showed her family. Her creative soul was expressed through crocheting, puzzles, and crafts, creating beauty and sharing it with others. Above all, Joyce cherished the time spent with her family, her grandchildren, and her beloved cat, Tiger, who were the center of her world.
Described by those who knew her as faith-filled, loving, and creative, Joyce's impact on the lives she touched is immeasurable. Her unwavering faith guided her through life's challenges and served as an inspiration to all. Her love knew no bounds, and her creativity brought joy and color to the lives of her family and friends.
