He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene Esler and Esther Esler (Smith); and his wife Dorothy Mae Roberts. He is survived by: his children, Karen Donovan (Jeff) of Gladstone and Larry Esler (Cathy Conroy) of Rapid River; his grandchildren, Jeff Donovan Jr. (Janelle) and Angela Brunette (Bryan); and his great grandchildren, Kiera, Kallie Donovan, Brock and Bella Brunette.
