He was predeceased by : his parents, James Luther and Marjorie Louise Cocke (Shinabarger); his wife Velma; and his siblings, Duane, Jim (Donna), Jerry and Janice Lemonds (Don).

He is survived by : his children, Donald P. Cocke Jr. (Judy) and Renee Buchanan (Jim); his grandchildren, Donald P. Cocke III, Michael Buchanan, Bridget Buchanan and Brett Buchanan; his great grandchild Matthew Cocke; his girlfriend Judy Taylor; and his sister-in-law Susan Cocke. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
