He was predeceased by: his parents, Jeff Coats and Georgia Coats (Clifton); his son Louie Coats; his granddaughter Erica Gould; and his stepson Chadwick Balzer.

He is survived by: his wife Sandra Kay Smith; his children, Bill "Bucky" Coats, Jr. and Ginger Johnson; his grandchildren, Hunter Coats (Lyndsay Larkin), Austin, Alex, Bryonna Coats, Nicole Dorman (John) and Willie Gould; his great grandchildren, Raquel Kauranen and Calista Coats; his extended family, Cyndi, Deven, Christian Bennett, Paulette, Trisha, Manuel, Kyla and Kennedy Lawson; his stepchildren, Ronda Tuthill, Rachelle Osborn (Chuck) and Art Balzer (Michelle); and also, Zach Balzer, Brandi Waller (Logan), Shelby Tuthill, Johanna Smith (Camden), Olivette Balzer (Ethan Fillmore), Nova, Ozzlo Waller and Brody Fillmore.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Klaassen Family Funeral Home (1500 Robbins Rd, Grand Haven, MI 49417). A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 28th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
