He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur A Mercer and Ethel M Mercer (Lillie); and his siblings, Donna Stevens, Clarence Mercer (Bill), Grace Maitland and Michael Mercer.
He is survived by: his wife Erva of Fremont; his children, John (Steve Bowman) of Muskegon, Constance Price (Tim) of Grant and Laura Kolkman (Scott) of Ravenna; his grandchildren, Sarah, Beth, Anna, Nick, Lisa, Kristi, Jamie and Jesse; and his siblings, Ina Bell of Grand Rapids, Donald Mercer and Kathryn Pulsipher of Hesperia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
