Cremation will take place, and Shirley will be laid to rest at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South, family and friends are invited to gather at the cemetery chapel on May 10, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Centrica Care Navigators Hospice, c/o the funeral home.
Our sweet Shirley at age 83, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2024, at Fountain View Assisted Living surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Kalamazoo on January 17, 1941, the daughter of the late Versil "Buck" and Dorothy (Martin) Russell. On June 24, 1941, she was united in marriage to the late Billy Joe Pio Sr. who passed away on April 20, 2018. They shared 59 years together. Shriley lived life to the fullest and loved her family. She worked hard as a school bus driver for the Portage Public Schools retiring in 2001 after more than 32 years of service. She enjoyed lake living, camping, fishing, casinos, crafts and making beautiful handmade quilts. She is survived by her daughter, Dawn (John Hillsburg) Pio; sons, Billy Jr. (Estrela) Pio and Scott (Wendy) Pio; grandchildren, Christina (Jai) Smith, Lance Pio, Alicia Pio, Andrew Futymoski and Tyler (Macy) Pio; nine great-grandchildren, Haidyn, Jordyn, Landyn, Carter, Jackson, Adella, Logan, Jacelynn, and Mavrick; a brother, Ken Russell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
