He was predeceased by: his wife Janet Hathaway (Hale); his son Scott; his sister Mary Billings; and his parents, George Hathaway and Ella.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara (Lauri); his children, George N. Hathaway, Jay Hathaway and Anna R. Lauri; his brothers, Ralph Hathaway, Joe Hathaway, Hazel, Patsy and Butch Sherwood; and his friend Tom Rock (Mary).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Shade Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of skin cancer and skin cancer related deaths through sun safety education, promotion of skin cancer screenings and the implementation of SHADE in public spaces.
