He was predeceased by : his parents, Everett Phelps and Vena Phelps (Cleveland); his spouse Lois Turner April; his daughter Carolyn Chamberlain; his son-in-law Gary Chamberlain; and his grandsons, Nick Tanks, Jason Chamberlain and Robert Barker III.

He is survived by : his children, Sandy Barker (Bob) of Deford, MI, Jane Stephens (Jackie) of West Memphis, AR, Mark J Phelps (Constance) of Louisville, KY, Barbara Tanks (Dan) of Fostoria, MI and John Phelps (Lorie) of Newaygo, MI; his brother Maxwell Phelps of Florida; and his close friend Margaret Wenta of Fostoria, MI.. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
