He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene Verstraete and Lorraine Verstraete (Curtis). He is survived by: his wife Sherry Verstraete (Mary Richardson); his children, Jeremy (Krystal), Mary (Tim Gale) and Jonathan (Dana); his grandchildren, Karson, Preston, Emerson, Olivia, Eleanor, Charlotte and Mabel; and his siblings, Eric (Julie), Donald (Sandi), Pamela (Dave), Cheryl (Ron) and Leann (Ross).

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations can be made to Karmanos Cancer Institute in Alans honor.
