He was predeceased by: his parents, Stephen Canning and Mary Agnes Canning (Foy); his wife Josephine Anna Ryan May; and his siblings, Margaret Mary Daly and John "Jack" Canning.
He is survived by: his children, Thomas Canning (Lynn) of Pinckney, Laura Evans (Rodger) of Brighton and Daniel Canning of Fenton; his grandchildren, Ryan Evans (Miranda) of Texas, Kelsey Evans of Illinois, Eric Evans (Rachel) of Royal Oak, Tyler Canning of Dexter, Anna Canning of Dexter, Kelly Canning of Fenton and Alexander Canning of Fenton; and his siblings, Pat Canning (Colette) of Florida, Catherine McGuire of Grand Blanc, Rita Doherty of Fenton, Irene Abbott (Clare) of Georgia, Karen Aldorfer (Dave) of Rochester Hills and Colleen Paradowski (Dennis) of Rochester. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
