He is survived by: his wife Ruby; his grandchildren, Joesph Theodore Borst (Caitlyn), Richard Michael Borst, Lindsay Holman (Nate), Phillip Smith, Jonathan Sprouse (Krista) and Jennifer Tello (Luis); and his brothers, Robert Lee Smith and Carl DeWite Smith.
His colleagues recognized him as a man of integrity and dedication, whose contributions to the field were invaluable.
