Lester Thomas Perkins Obituary
Lester Thomas Perkins, 74, of Fennville, Michigan, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born August 27, 1948, in Rockford, Illinois, he was the son of the late Elwin and Mae (Stehle) Perkins and the husband of Pamela (Wolters) Perkins. Lester had a strong work ethic and love of country. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country honorably. Upon resuming his civilian life, Lester became known to many as a workaholic. He was a hard worker who took pride in what he did. He was a mechanic by trade and that worked well for him when restoring his John Deere tractors. Lester had a great love for John Deere tractors. Seeing them and knowing his own two hands kept them running great, brought him a lot of joy. Lester was also a kind man who loved to watch the birds outside, spend time with his cat (Shadow), work on Sudoku, or watch the news. However, his family meant the most to him and time spent with them and doing things for them, made Lester's life complete. His wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren made every day a new day and he felt blessed to enjoy it with them.
Lester is survived by his wife, Pamela; his son, Eric (America) Perkins; his grandchildren, Carlos, Karla, Makayla, Quinna, Hunter, and Chloe; his great-grandchildren, Coraline, Adalynn, Aden, Levi, Ryan, Oakley, plus one on the way; his brothers, Timothy Perkins and Brad Perkins. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tracy Perkins; and his brother, Michael Perkins.
The family will meet with friends at Chappell Funeral Home on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with the Memorial Service beginning at 12:00 PM, Marcia Tucker officiating. After the service, a graveside committal with military honors will take place at Plummerville Cemetery at approximately 1:00 PM. The family wishes to invite service goers to a luncheon at Ganges United Methodist Church (2218 68th St, Fennville, MI 49408) following the cemetery.
The committal service with military honors will take place directly following the Memorial Service.
