He was predeceased by: his parents, William Thomas and Beatrice Thomas (Smith); and his siblings, Catherine Hemyer, Mildred Hamlin, William Thomas, Marlyn Gilbert and Robert Thomas.

He is survived by: his wife Johanna (Curtis); his children, Cindi Mosher (Doyle), Mary Browne (Tim), Vincent Thomas (Janet), Sharon Whaley (John), Michael Thomas and Julie Sebastian (Scott); and his brother Donald Thomas (Patricia).

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan (https://www.dsawm.org) in honor of Earl's great-grandson, George Earl Whaley.
