He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin Elzinga and Isabel Elzinga. He is survived by: his wife Linda Halford; his brothers, Steven Elzinga (Nancy) of Lambertville and Terry "Chief" Elzinga (Young) of South Korea; and his grandchildren, Brendon Thomas (Karalea Davis) and Dr. Emily Thomas (Dennis Barbon). He is also survived by nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Planned Parenthood and Hospice of Michigan.
