He was predeceased by: his parents, Myrtle and Arthur; and his stepfather Martin Hockstra. He is survived by: his wife Ruthie; his children, Rick Johnston (Debi), Dennis, Mianne Malberg (Gene) and Cindy Cox (Kent); and his grandchildren, Jodi, Holly (Eric), Mandy (Scott), Jamy (Julie), Jared, Justin (Jen), Emily (DJ), Melissa (Jason), Sarah (Ernest), Lucas, Erin (Scott), Chad (Keigh), Adam (Marianne) and Megan (Gareth).

Visitation was held on Sunday, February 2nd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday, February 3rd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service was held on Monday, February 3rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. Michael Catholic Church (8929 50th Ave, Remus, MI 49340). A burial was held on Monday, February 3rd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the St. Michael's Catholic Church (8929 50th Ave, Remus, MI 49340).
