He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Peter Koert and Anna Koert (Faber); his wife Millie Van Dam; his daughters, Ann Koert and Deborah Koert; his brother Peter; his children, Jeff, Sally Koert, Peter and Rachel Koert; and his sister Winifred Nykamp. He was also cherished by nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren.
