He was predeceased by: his parents, Dale Lee Mapes and Sylvia Evelyn Mapes (Ashbolt); and his son Steven Wayne Mapes-Arredondo. He is survived by: his wife Cheryl Mapes (French); his children, Alisa Cronkhite (Chris), Emily Mapes (Neko), Amanda Mapes, Daniel Mapes (Alexandra), Torren Mapes and Taiyah Mapes; his grandchildren, Dyllan, Dammon, Talon, Lilie, Aleigha, Kendall and Alexis; and his siblings, Irene Mallow, Dennis Mapes (Candice), Lynn Thurman (Don), Gayle Scantlen (Randy) and Susan Lankford (Tom). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great friends.
