He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Gowell and Myrtle Gowell (McIntire); his spouse Betty Kintner; and his siblings, Ken Gowell, Calvin Gowell, Jennette Mast, Marge Hammond and Donna Fremd.
He is survived by: his children, Sharon Sparzynski (George), Carol Clark (Marty), Jerry Tallman (Theresa) and Linda Tallman (Kurt); his grandchildren, Blayne Sheppard, Carrie Sparzynski-Belk (Mike), Ben Gowell (Amanda), Emily Smith (Danny) and Betsy Gowell; and his great grandchildren, Gavynn Belk, Mya Sheppard, Grayson and Kennedy Gowell.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cheboygan Public Library.
