He was predeceased by: his parents, James Merlo and Theresa Merlo (Nee Schaivo); his stepfather Robert Bergman (Darleen); his son Mitchell A. Merlo; and his granddaughter Victoria R. Halter.
He is survived by: his wife Darlene M. Jens; his sister Rosemary Auer (John); his children, James J. Merlo (Kathy), Gina Halter (Tom) and Susan Merlo; his grandchildren, Robin Duran (Kimberlee), Bonnie Rydelski (Chris), Michael Merlo (Amanda), Tyler Merlo, Allyssa Merlo, Hannah Merlo, Nickolass Merlo, Stephanie Ryckman (Sarah) and Katie O'Brien (Dan); and his great grandchildren, Travis Duran, Parker, Delaney Rydelski, James "Easton" Merlo and Mikaela O'Brien. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lots of friends.
