He was predeceased by: his parents, Alphonse Peterson and Florence Peterson (Nelson); and his brother Frederick Peterson. He is survived by: his wife Arlene Peterson (Hanmer); his daughters, Ingrid VanderLende (Greg) of Rockford and Gretchen Carlson (Jamie) of Crystal Falls; his grandchildren, Trent VanderLende, Austin Carlson, Ericka VanderLende and Kayla Carlson; his sister Janet Nettleton (Mack) of Maplewood, MN; and his sister-in-law Marilyn Peterson Eastman of Marquette. He is also survived by many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.
