He was predeceased by: his parents, Vincent Herbert and Phyllis Herbert (McAllister). He is survived by: his wife Barbara Herbert of Croswell; his children, Theresa Straffon of Brown City, Dana Mossop of New Port Richey, Vincent Herbert (Shelia) of Croswell and Leann Hicks of Sherman; and his brothers, Gregory Herbert, Brian Herbert (Jane), Brad Herbert, Vaughn Herbert (Marsha) and Vance Herbert (Janet). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Memorials in memory of Garey may be made to the Applegate United Methodist Church.
