He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick Tempel and Mamie Tempel (Spatz); and his siblings, Elizabeth Conrad, Mathilda Courter, Frederick Tempel, Jr. and Katherine Smullen.

He is survived by: his wife Ruth Yvonne Smith; his daughters, Yvonne Tempel (David Rideout) and Katherine Krompascik (Michael); his grandchildren, Kendra, Eleanor Rideout, Owen and Grace Krompascik; and his friends, William Pearsall and Michael Bradley. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
