He was predeceased by: his wife Elvira Koivu (Murphy); his parents, Vaino Koivu and Selma Koivu (Ahlfors); his siblings, Margaret, William and Elvie; his sons-in-law, Paul Rybicki and Ken Parker; and his grandsons, Charles Williams and Tracy Webb.

He is survived by: his children, Victoria Koivu-Rybicki (late Paul) and Ronald Koivu (Maria). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren.
