Rodney R. Bohyer Obituary
Rodney R. Bohyer age 80 of Colon, Michigan passed away early Friday afternoon November 12, 2021 at the Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
He was born April 10, 1941 in Sturgis, Michigan son of the late Ralph and Maria (Guerrero) Bohyer.
Rodney resided most of his life in the Sturgis and Colon area with the exception of the years he was serving in the Navy.
On April 10, 1962 he married Rose Marie Coleman in Newport, Rhode Island.
Rodney took great pride in being a Vietnam veteran serving his country in the U.S. Navy retiring following over 20 years of dedicated service. At the time of his retirement he held the rank of Boatswain Mate First Class. Upon returning to Sturgis he accepted a position with Grumman Olson in Sturgis where he retired following over 30 years of dedicated employment.
He was a faithful member of Gracepoint Baptist Church in Sturgis. He also was a member of Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion and Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, studying his Bible and attending church. Rodney always seemed to be happiest when he was helping others in any way he could.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 59 years: Rose; one son: Rodney Bohyer, Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina; one daughter: Laurie Allen of Sturgis seven grandchildren: Jeff Belote, Jennifer Shephard, Crystal Dell, Wade, Jessikah, and Mandi Allen and Gage West and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Rhonda Belote; sisters: Betty Blair and Anita Clark and brother: James W. Bohyer.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Gracepoint Baptist Church, 26268 US-12 in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Rodney R Bohyer will immediately follow the visitation at 1:00 P.M. The Rev. Greg Long will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis where full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
