She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles Arent and Alice Arent (Cole); her husband Don Smith Sr.; and her sister Sarah Ann Smith. She is survived by: her children, Gloria Thar (Doug) of Florida, Connie Kennedy (Bob) of Benton Harbor, Don Smith Jr. (Robin) of Watervliet, Kathy Butler (Smith) of Coloma and Alice Hauch (Smith) of Coloma; and her sisters, Mary Lou Eckoff (Lawrence) and Dorothy Hemminger (Martin). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren.

Donations in memory of Betty Jean may be made to the Susan G Komen for a Cure breast cancer organization, of which she was a survivor.
