He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert J. Mate and Helen A. Mate (Watkins); his son Robert Leo Mate; and his siblings, Barb Wolfinger, Patrick Mate and Jerry Tingle.
He is survived by: his wife Anne Louise (McMillen); his children, Melissa Doerr of Angola and Adam Mate of Texas; and his siblings-in-law, Steven Wolfinger, Earlean Mate and Ginnell Tingle. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
