He was predeceased by: his parents, Orville Maxson and Evelyn Maxson (Hutchins); his brother Mervin; and his sister-in-law Kathleen Maxson. He is survived by: his wife Charlotte D. Carnes; his daughters, Kimberly Sims of Coldwater, Tonya Morrow of Coldwater and Heather Pierce (Howard) of Lawton, OK; his sister Julia Hissong (Ed) of Ft. Wayne, IN; his grandchildren, Dustin Sims (Maggie), Brian Combs (Jessica), Chasity Atchley, Latosha Guerra (Daniel), Matthew Stauffer, Joshua Stauffer, Marisa Rankins (Josh), Mariah Lopez (Fred) and Caleb Eilerman; and his friend John Watson. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren.
