He was predeceased by: his parents, Alexander Schmidt and Mildred Schmidt; his brother James Schmidt; his brother-in-law Robert Harris; and his stepmother Anna Jean Schmidt.

He is survived by: his children, Alex Schmidt, Anna Turnbull (Joseph) and Addisen Schmidt; the mother of his children Michelle Schmidt; his siblings, John Schmidt (Barbara), William Schmidt (Susan), Dianne Williams (Richard) and Ellen Harris; and his sister-in-law Mary Lee Schmidt. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
