He was predeceased by: his girlfriend Sherri Young; and his son Gerald D. Darling. He is survived by: his girlfriend's son Richard Young; his daughters, Michelle Darling (Bill Edwards) and Liz Foster (Benjy); and his granddaughter Kaitlin Williams.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michigan Humane Society.
