He was predeceased by: his father Robert Darling; and his half-brother Captain Robert H. Darling. He is survived by: his wife Suzanne (Sears); his sister Jane Darling; his half-sister Shirley Howell; and his stepchildren, Christina Plucinski (Matthew), Mike DuBay (Jenn), Kelly Kaczmarek, Kim Winkler and Scott Darling (Kaitlyn). He is also survived by 8 step grandchildren.
