He is survived by: his children, Michael Merkel of Azalia, Linda Hahn (Walter) of Chelsea, Ann Salyer (Rodney) of Bark River, Beth Corwin (Craig) of Pinckney, Theresa Tietjen (James) of Waxhaw, NC and Margaret Stech (William) of Chelsea. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
