He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, George Frederick and Ruby Mae Bauer (Hadley); his wife Leila C. Trinkle; his children, Jeanette "Jeanne" Spencer (Jef) of Manchester and Donald "Donnie" Bauer, Jr. of Chelsea; his adoptive son Robert "Bob" Shipman of Chelsea; his siblings, Robert Bauer and Barbara Fredette (Charles); and his sister-in-law Jayne Bauer. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
