He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Bates and Leona Bates (Griffin); and his wife Ila Rose. He is survived by: his brothers, Dean Bates, Lyle Bates (Maralyn) and Elwyn Bates (Nancy); his stepchildren, Sonya Bryan, Kevin Bryan (Kemeko), Ross Bryan and Donny Bryan; his grandsons, Cody Bethel (Liz), Tom Belman (Mamie), Todd Robin (Belman) and Larry Schroeder; and his great grandchildren, Ashton, ElliMae and Novaly.
