He was predeceased by: his parents, Patrick McGovern and Merle McGovern (Shessia); his daughter Tonya; his stepdaughter Vanessa Leeds; and his sisters, Joyce Borowicz, Sharon Platzer, Sandy Budzinski and Carol McGovern.

He is survived by: his spouse Elke Rautenberg; his children, Joshua McGovern (Lynn) of Wolverine and Tammy McGovern (Lee) of Midland; his stepdaughter Stacey Rocquemore (Anthony) of Cincinnatti; his siblings, Patrick (Kay) of Cheboygan, Jack (Eve) of Richland, Clayton (Vicki) of Cheboygan, Pam Kitchen (Ken) of Cheboygan and Kathy Pruchnicki of Cheboygan; and his grandchildren, Sean, Lilly, Sidney, Devon, Tyler and Zion.
