He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Hietala and Impi Hietala (Lehto); and his siblings, Ruth Kangas, Arthur and Kenneth.
He is survived by: his wife Edna "Darlene" Mars; his grandchildren, His, Jeanette Katona (Thomas) of Henrico, Karen Calleja (Jeffrey) of Livonia and John Hietala (Valerie) of Hamburg; his brothers, Ryan Katona His, Mark Hietala Daniel Calleja and Chad Hietala (Maddalena); and his siblings-in-law, Harold Kangas of Houghton and Marie Hietala of Northville. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
