He is survived by: his wife Laura R. Nurmela (Maki); his children, Amy Nurmela (Brandon Nelson) of North Lake and Bryan Nurmela of Three Lakes; his grandchildren, Carson, Riley, Ethan, Gavin and Andrew; his brother Ralph Nurmela (Michael) of Florida; and his siblings-in-law, Debbie Nurmela and Jalmer Lakonen of Three Lakes. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
