He was predeceased by: his parents, Freddie Messner and Cora Mae Messner (Nihart); his wife Donna Lillian Sigrist; his daughter-in-law Carol Messner; and his sisters, Joanne and Susie.
He is survived by: his children, Richard L. Messner, Jr. (Anne) of Sturgis, Freddie M. Messner of Sturgis and Jackie L. Locker (Joe) of Davenport, Florida; his grandchildren, Jennifer Kim (Keith), Ryan Messner, Gretchen Locker, Tony Messner and Sean Messner; his great grandchildren, Alexander and Ella Kim; and his sister Julie of Florida. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
