He was predeceased by: his parents, George Gresla and Olga Gresla (Schmidt); his wife Maxine O. Burnham; and his siblings, Robert, Jack and Carol Heck.

He is survived by: his sons, Dr. Mark Gresla (Janelle) of Decatur, Indiana, Eric Gresla (Madhu) of Chicago, Illinois and Timothy Gresla (Janiene) of Winchester, Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Abby Gresla, Jennifer Chapa (Robert), Ashley Huie (Tom), John Gresla (Alice), Alicia Gresla, Christopher Gresla, Nicholas Gresla and Kristen Gresla; and his great grandchildren, Noah, Olivia, Charlotte, Amelia and Madelyn.
