He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Merlington and Ruth Merlington (Madison); his siblings, Ronny, Rex Merlington and Roseanne Morris; and his grandchildren, Marcus and Amanda Empie.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia; his daughters, Debra Cumings (Bob) and Jenifer Smigiel; his grandchildren, Joshua, Ashley Cumings, Matthew Cumings, Brandon, Sarah Empie, Shana, Tiffany Empie (Charles Stout), Shamar Shqair, Becker Shqair and Kaylee Morales; his great grandchildren, Stella Stout, Dava Cumings and Gwynivere Empie; and his sister Rosalyn Wall. He is also survived by many nieces, cousins and friends.
