He was predeceased by: his father Wallace Kappen; his siblings, Charles Kappen, John "Jack" Kappen and Bonnie Kappen; and his niece Aleigh Kappen.
He is survived by: his mother Shirley Kappen (Koehler) of Cass City; his wife Sue; his stepchildren, Tammy Rae Lemanksi (Jamie) of Mt. Washington, KY and Larry Richard McNeil of Orlando, FL; his grandchildren, Taylor Brown (Marcus), Carter Lemanski, Brittany Merchant (Jake), Lindsey McNeil and Chelsea Wilson; his siblings, Robert Kappen (Crystal) of Cass City and Victoria Proctor (Ken) of Akron; and his sister-in-law Susan Kappen. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
