He was predeceased by: his parents, Will VanderVeen and Esther VanderVeen (Walker); his siblings, Vera Miller (Duane), Ila Spencer and Paul VanderVeen; and his great-nephew Dean Chandler.

He is survived by: his sister Donna Porter of Cadillac; and his brother-in-law Richard Spencer of Drummond Island. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
