He was predeceased by: his parents, Anko Slachter and Alice Slachter (Yonkman); his siblings, John Slachter (Rosemary), Angela Quist (Cliff) and Eleanor Thomas (Jim); and his brother-in-law Ray Winkle.

He is survived by: his wife Donna Anderson; his children, Suzanne "Dubbie" Slack of Cadillac, David Slack of Cadillac, Shannon Slachter (Stacy) of Austin, Noelle Kangas (Rick) of Brighton, Kristine Black of Phoenix and Michael Black (Mary) of Traverse City; his grandchildren, Christopher Slack (Arianna), Joseph Black, Michael Kangas (Alexis) and Kelsea Kangas; his great grandchildren, Cameron Black, Nathaniel Adrian Slack, Alexandria Slack and Declan Slack; and his siblings, Marvin Slachter (Marilyn) of Jenison and Dorothy Winkle of Jenison.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Cadillac.
