She was predeceased by: her parents, Gottlieb Guse and Katherine Guse (Reinhardt); her husband John Schaffrinski; and her siblings, Gottfried Guse, Ludwig Guse and Olga Linke.

She is survived by: her daughters, Karin Duensing (Patrick) and Heidi Deja (Michael); her grandchildren, Hilary Kalin (Jerry), Kelly Wilson (Drew), Emily Deja, Andrew Deja (Hannah) and Ellen Napier (Daniel); her great grandchildren, Jacey, Corbin, Hadley, Isabella, Weston, Addie, Abel and Daphne; her brother Ewald Guse (Christal); and her sister-in-law Erika Guse.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 2673 W John Beers Rd, Stevensville, MI 49127 or Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane St. Joseph, MI 49085.

“I had the privilege of serving Erna (and John) with the Gospel of Jesus Christ in German for ten years at St. Paul's, Stevensville, then in English till John went home heaven and after my retirement at Thursday morning group Bible study at Woodland Terrace, Bridgman, and later on Thursday mornings at West Woods , Bridgman. Erna clearly confessed her faith in Jesus and looked forward confidently to eternal life in heaven for Jesus' sake. Pastor emeritus Gerald Schroer”
