John Y. R. Shen Obituary

With profound sadness, we say goodbye to John Y. R. Shen (Birmingham, Michigan), whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. John left this world on May 4, 2024 at the age of 88, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

As we bid farewell to this luminous soul, let his loved ones carry forward the torch of his memory, illuminating the path ahead with the warmth of his love and the brilliance of his spirit. Though John may journey beyond the horizon of our sight, his essence remains woven into the very fabric of our being — a guiding light in the darkness, a beacon of hope in the night.

He is survived by: his wife Theresa; his children, Iris Shen-Van Buren (Eric Van Buren), Janis Shen (Dylan Fusillo) and David Shen (Josefina); and his grandchildren, Elena and Alex. He is also survived by sisters and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, we suggest that friends remember John through a donation toWayne State University's funds for the upkeep of the Chinese Ethnic Heritage Room in Alex Manoogian Hall.
