He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Shaler and Evelyn Shaler Jr. (White); his wife Patricia Teenier (Teenier); his daughter Shaleen Chambers (Shelly); and his brother Don Shaler.
He is survived by: his children, James Shaler Jr. (Tammy), Dale Shaler (Carla) and Tammy Shaler-Kopka (Jim); his brothers, Earl Shaler Jr. and Bob Shaler; and his friend Rosie Irish. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
