He was predeceased by: his parents, Gust E. Kangas and Lillian Kangas (Manninen); his siblings, Vivian Katapol, Jane Cvengros, Joyce Hession, Werner Kangas, Keith Kangas and Robert "Butchie" Kangas; and his brothers-in-law, Tom Katapol and Charles Hession.
He is survived by: his former spouse Beverly C. Ellis; his wife Helen Jakkola; his children, Dennis Kangas (Judy), Donald Kangas (Julie) and Paula Gribble (Jim); his grandchildren, Jamie Kangas, Dana Semo (Paul), Matt Hellman (Nicole) and Jessie Hellman; his great grandchildren, Ashlen, Caydin, Devyn Kangas, Alexius, Jaxson Semo, Abigail and Marvin Hellman; his siblings, Bernice Supercynski (Florian), Aurora, Colo, Delores Stefanik (John), Greendale, Wis, Arla Romo (Sulo), Ironwood and Larry Kangas (Diane); and his brother-in-law Donald Cvengros. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
