He was predeceased by: his parents, Alexander Herd and Marguerite Herd; his son Steven Herd (Frances); and his wife Frances Adell Chitty. He is survived by: his children, Michael Herd (Leigh Anne) and Diana Keefe (William); his grandchildren, Micaila Brown (John), Toria Herd, Adam Herd, Cara Keefe, Erin Keefe and Lily Keefe; his great grandchildren, Nora and Hannah Brown; and his sister Eileen Davis.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ferndale Public Schools to assist with the construction of a Lego Wall.
